This here whole grain casadea, you see, it’s somethin’ else. My family, they just love it. Even my old man, and he don’t like nothin’ that’s good for ya, whole wheat or what have you. But this, he gobbles it up!
We gotta eat more of them whole grains, you know? Doctor says so. This here casadea, it’s a good way to get ’em in ya. It’s easy, too, like them ones you get at the store, but this one, you make it yourself, so you know what’s in it. No funny stuff.
These here casadeas, they ain’t nothin’ fancy. Just somethin’ quick and easy for when you’re in a hurry, or when the young’uns come home late from wherever they been. They’re warm, got that cheese all melted…mmm, good!
- First thing, you need them tortillas. But the whole grain kind, remember?
- Then you need some cheese. Any kind will do, really, but that Monterey Jack, that’s the good stuff.
- And you can put other stuff in there, too. Like them black beans. Good for ya, those beans. Lots of that…fiber, they call it.
I seen some folks puttin’ all sorts of things in their casadeas. White beans and that green stuff, kale, they call it. And garlic, and them little red peppers that make your mouth hot. And more cheese! Gotta have lots of cheese.
One time, I saw, they put chicken and mushrooms in there. Mushrooms! Can you believe it? Well, I reckon you can put just about anythin’ in there, long as you got that cheese to hold it all together. And them whole grain tortillas, of course. Can’t forget them.
So, how you make this thing? Easy peasy. You get yourself a pan, one of them non-stick ones. Put a little oil in it, not too much. Then you lay one of them tortillas down flat.
- Sprinkle some cheese on it, that cheddar cheese is good too.
- Then you put your other stuff on top. Like the chicken, or the beans, or whatever you’re usin’.
- Then more cheese! Gotta have that cheese on top, too.
- Then you put another tortilla on top of all that.
You let it cook for a little bit, till the cheese gets all melty and the tortilla gets a little brown. Then you gotta flip it over. That’s the tricky part. Gotta be careful not to let all that stuff fall out. Just use a big spatula. Flip it over quick, like flippin’ a pancake. Then you cook the other side till it’s all nice and brown, too.
And that’s it! You got yourself a whole grain casadea. Cut it up into triangles, like a pizza. My grandkids, they love it when I cut it like that. Makes ’em feel like they’re eatin’ somethin’ special.
Now, this ain’t no fancy meal, mind you. But it’s good, and it’s good for ya. And it’s easy to make. Even I can make it, and I ain’t no fancy cook. You can eat this whole grain casadea for dinner time, or lunch time or any time. Or, when you need a quick meal on a busy day. It is easy and fast to make.
And you can change it up, too. Put different things in it. Whatever you like. Just remember them whole grain tortillas. That’s the important part. Gotta get them whole grains in ya. Doctor says so.
Try making this whole grain casadea, it is tasty, and you can feel good when you eat this. A healthy body makes you happy all day long.
My family, they just love these things. Even my old man, and he don’t like nothin’ healthy. He calls them pizza things. He ask me to make it every week. But I tell him, “You eat too much of these, you’re gonna get fat!” He just laughs. He don’t care. He just loves that cheese.
