So, I decided to up my camping game by trying out some campfire desserts. I mean, who doesn’t love a good dessert, especially when you’re out in nature, right? I started by gathering all the stuff I needed. First things first, I made sure I had a good campfire going. That’s the key, you know?
Then, I grabbed some oranges. Yeah, oranges. I cut them in half and scooped out all the juicy insides. Keep it though, that fresh juice is great on its own. I kept the orange halves and filled them with brownie mix. I just used a regular boxed mix, nothing fancy. I wrapped each one up tight in foil. I made sure they were sealed really well, so nothing would leak out.
- Step 1: Get a fire going. A nice, steady one.
- Step 2: Halve some oranges and scoop out the insides.
- Step 3: Fill the orange halves with brownie mix.
- Step 4: Wrap ’em up in foil, nice and snug.
I carefully placed them on the hot coals, not directly in the flames, but close enough to get some good heat. You know the heat of coals can be really strong, so I kept an eye on them. I think I let them cook for about 30 to 40 minutes. It might depend on your fire though. You don’t want to rush it, but you also don’t want to burn them to a crisp. It’s a delicate balance, folks. I rotated them a couple of times too, just to make sure they cooked evenly.
While those were cooking, I prepped some bananas. I sliced them open, but not all the way through. Kind of like a hot dog bun. I stuffed them with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips. Then, wrapped those in foil as well. Into the coals they went, just like the orange brownies. These guys cook a lot faster. Maybe 10, 15 minutes? I just kept checking on them until the marshmallows were all melty and the chocolate was gooey.
When I thought everything was ready, I pulled them out of the coals with some tongs. Safety first, people! I let them cool for a bit because, let me tell you, they were hot. Then came the best part. I unwrapped one of the orange brownies, and it smelled amazing. The brownie had baked right inside the orange peel. It was moist and had a hint of orange flavor. Seriously, so good. The banana boats were also a hit. Warm, gooey, chocolatey goodness.
My Thoughts
Honestly, these were way easier to make than I thought they’d be. And they tasted awesome. Everyone loved them. It’s definitely something I’ll be doing again on my next camping trip. If you’re looking for a fun and easy dessert to make over a campfire, give these a try. You won’t regret it. Trust me on this one!
