Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… lentil flatbread thing. I ain’t no fancy cook, you know? I just make food that fills the belly and doesn’t cost a fortune. This here flatbread, it’s kinda like that.
So, first thing you gotta know is, this ain’t your grandma’s bread, unless your grandma was some kinda health nut, which mine sure wasn’t. She baked with lard and white flour, bless her soul. This flatbread, it’s made with them… lentils. Little orange ones, they look like. Never seen nothin’ like it before, to be honest.
What are these lentils, you ask? Well, they’re these little bean-like things, kinda like split peas but smaller and… redder. Apparently, they’re good for you. Full of that… protein stuff and… fiber, whatever that is. All I know is, they fill you up good, and that’s what matters.
Making this flatbread ain’t rocket science, thank the good Lord. You soak them lentils in water for a while, then you blend ‘em up with more water until it’s all smooth-like. No flour, no nothin’ else, just lentils and water. Seems kinda crazy, right? But it works!
- Soak them lentils – Don’t ask me how long, I just eyeball it. Couple hours, maybe? Until they’re soft, I guess.
- Blend them up – Get yourself a good blender. Mine’s old but it gets the job done. Blend them lentils with water till it’s smooth like baby food.
- Cook them on the stove – Pour that lentil mix onto a hot pan, like you’re making a pancake. But this ain’t no pancake, it’s… flatbread.
Now, this lentil flatbread, it don’t taste like much on its own. I mean, it tastes like… lentils, I guess. Kind of earthy. But that’s alright, cause you can put all sorts of stuff on it. I like to put some… what’s that stuff called? Hummus? Yeah, that chickpea stuff. And maybe some avocado if I’m feelin’ fancy. You could put anything on it though, really. Leftover chicken, some veggies, whatever you got in the fridge.
Why eat this lentil flatbread? Well, like I said, it’s filling. And it’s cheap. Lentils don’t cost much, and water’s free if you got a well. And I hear it’s healthy, too. Good for your heart and your… insides. I’m gettin’ old, so I gotta start thinkin’ about that stuff, I guess. Doctor keeps tellin’ me to eat more vegetables and less… well, less of everything I like.
This flatbread, it ain’t just for old folks though. My grandkids, they even like it. I make them little wraps with it, fill ‘em with whatever they want. They call it “grandma’s special bread”. Makes me smile, it does.
You can use this flatbread for all sorts of things. Instead of them tortillas for tacos, or you could put some stew on top, or make a sandwich. Heck, you could even eat it plain if you’re that kinda person. I ain’t judgin’.
One thing I will say, this here flatbread, it’s… different. It ain’t fluffy like regular bread, and it don’t taste the same neither. It’s a bit… chewier. But once you get used to it, it’s actually pretty good. And it makes you feel good, knowin’ you’re eatin’ somethin’ healthy and homemade.
So, there you have it. Lentil flatbread. It ain’t fancy, but it’s good. It’s filling, it’s cheap, and it’s good for you. Give it a try, what have you got to lose? Worst case, you got some extra lentil mush to feed the chickens. They ain’t complainin’. And who knows, maybe you’ll end up liking it as much as my grandkids do.
One more thing. Don’t go burnin’ it now. Keep an eye on that pan. Medium heat, that’s what I use. And don’t try to flip it too soon, or it’ll fall apart. Wait till it’s cooked on one side, then flip it gentle-like.
Alright, I’m done talkin’ about this flatbread. I gotta go feed them chickens now. You go on and make yourself some lentil flatbread, and let me know what you think. But don’t you go complainin’ to me if it ain’t perfect. I told you, I ain’t no fancy cook!
