Alright, let’s gab about this New York chicken, you know, the fried kind. Folks in the city, they seem to love it. I ain’t from around here, but I can tell you a thing or two about good eatin’.
Now, they got all sorts of fancy places, what they call ‘em, “neobistros” and such. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. But they do make some fried chicken, that’s for sure. Some places, they give you this chicken what they call “karaage”. It’s supposed to be light and crispy. Never heard of it myself ‘til now.
- Bobwhite Lunch & Supper Counter: Heard tell they got this dark-meat chicken, three pieces, and they dunk it in sweet tea. Sweet tea and chicken? Well, I guess folks here try anything. But if it’s good, it’s good, right?
- Pecking House, Rowdy Rooster, Pies-n-Thighs, and Blue Ribbon Brasserie: These are some other names folks keep throwin’ around. Too many names if you ask me. Makes a body dizzy. But I reckon they all gotta be sellin’ that fried chicken.
- Yardbird, Pollo Campero, Chicken Stop, Charles’s Pan Fried Chicken, Dave’s Hot Chicken, and Peeps Kitchen: And here’s even more! My goodness, city folks got too much time on their hands. Seems like everyone’s got a chicken place. Some of ’em make it hot, some of ’em make it…well, I don’t rightly know how they all make it different, but they do.
One fella told me he had some chicken that was “crispy and juicy”. Well, that’s how chicken should be! Ain’t nothin’ special ‘bout that, unless he’s been eatin’ some sorry chicken before. If it ain’t crispy and juicy, it ain’t worth the trouble, that’s what I say.
Now, they serve this chicken on plates, like normal folks. But then they go and stick it in between bread and call it a sandwich. A chicken sandwich! I guess that’s city folks for ya. Always gotta be different. I ain’t complainin’ though. A good chicken sandwich can hit the spot, specially when you’re on the go.
So, where’s the best fried chicken in New York? That’s what everyone wants to know. I’ve heard so many places mentioned, it’s hard to keep track. But it seems like you can’t go wrong with places like Bobwhite or maybe one of them other joints. They all seem to have their fans.
Personally, I like my chicken simple. Fried good and crispy, not too much fuss. I don’t need no fancy sauces or nothin’. Just good ol’ chicken, the way it should be. But I guess folks here like to try different things. And that’s alright, I suppose. To each their own.
If you’re lookin’ for fried chicken in New York, you got plenty of choices. Just go out there and try some. You’ll find somethin’ you like eventually. And don’t be fooled by all them fancy names and descriptions. At the end of the day, it’s all just chicken.
And remember, the best fried chicken is the one that tastes good to you. Don’t let nobody tell you different. If you like it greasy, eat it greasy. If you like it spicy, eat it spicy. It’s your chicken, and you can eat it how you want.
That’s all I gotta say ‘bout this New York chicken. It’s a whole lot of fuss, if you ask me, but folks seem to love it. So go on out there and try some for yourself. Just make sure it’s cooked right and it tastes good. And don’t forget to bring a napkin. Fried chicken can get messy.
Now I gotta go find me some sweet tea, all this talk about chicken and such has got me thirsty. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll try some of that city chicken myself. Gotta see what all the fuss is about.
