This here distilled water, some folks say it goes bad, some say it don’t. My old man used to say, “Water’s water, long as it ain’t got critters swimmin’ in it.” But this here distilled water, that’s a whole other thing. Ain’t got nothin’ in it, not even them little minerals and such.
Now, I ain’t no fancy scientist, but I reckon if you keep that distilled water all sealed up tight, like in them plastic jugs you get from the store, it oughta last a good long while. Maybe forever, even. Long as nothin’ gets in there, you see. No dirt, no bugs, no nothin’. Keep it shut tight, that’s the key. Can distilled water expire? Not if you do it right, I say.
But, once you crack that seal, well, that’s a different story. You gotta use it up, and don’t let it sit around too long. Even though it’s just water, if it’s open, it can still get stuff growing in it that you don’t want to be drinking. Unopened bottled distilled water is like gold, keep it that way. I remember one time, I left a jug of water open by the window… oh boy, that wasn’t good. Don’t be like me, keep it sealed.
- Keep that lid on tight!
- Don’t let it sit in the sun.
- If you open it, use it up quick.
- Don’t drink it if it looks funny.
- Distilled water is safe, but keep it clean.
I heard some folks say that distilled water ain’t good for you, that it ain’t got the right stuff in it, like regular water. They say you need them minerals. I don’t know about all that. But I do know that plain old water, from the well or the tap, that’s what I’ve been drinkin’ my whole life. And I’m still kickin’, ain’t I? If you are worried about drinking distilled water regularly, maybe you need something else.
Now, this distilled water, it sure is good for some things. Like in them steam irons, or for cleanin’ stuff where you don’t want no spots. And I reckon it’s good for them science experiments, too. But for drinkin’? I don’t know. Maybe if you’re real sick or somethin’. It just tastes a little funny to me, kinda flat. Distilled water is safe to drink, just tastes weird.
Back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy distilled water. We just had our well. And we drank that water, and we were fine. Sometimes it tasted a little like dirt, especially after a rain, but it kept us alive. Now, folks are all worried about germs and such. I guess that’s why they make this here distilled water.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout these little tiny things called “Pseudo-somethin’s” and “Achromy-somethin’s.” They say these things can live in distilled water, even though there ain’t much for ’em to eat. I don’t know what those things are, but they sound like trouble. Just another reason to keep that water sealed up tight, I reckon.
So, can distilled water expire? Well, if you keep it sealed up tight, probably not. But if you open it, yeah, it can get stuff growing in there. If you keep it in the dark, away from the light, it’ll probably last longer. Those little critters like the light, from what I hear.
If you ask me, just drink regular water. But if you gotta have that distilled water, just be smart about it. Keep it sealed, keep it clean, and use it up quick once you open it. That’s all there is to it. It is like everything else. If you take care of it, it’ll take care of you. If you don’t, well, you might be in for a surprise. Keep that in mind when it comes to unopened bottled distilled water, even that can get weird if you treat it badly. It is just common sense.
Now, I’ve been talking too much. My throat’s gettin’ dry. I think I’ll go have a glass of water. From the tap, not the plastic jug. It tastes like home, you know?
