Coconut Tart: A Tropical Treat for Any Occasion (Simple Ingredients)

Yo! Today, I’m gonna tell you about this thing, coconut tart. That’s right, coconut tart. It’s sweet, it’s good, and everybody likes it. I make it all the time, and my grandkids, they just gobble it up. You wanna know how to make it? I’ll tell ya. It’s easy as pie, well, easier than pie, ’cause pie is kinda hard, ain’t it?

First, you gotta get yourself some coconuts. Now, if you live where they got coconut trees, you just go out and pick some. But if you’re like me and don’t got them trees, you gotta go to the store. You can buy them cans of coconut, but fresh is always better. That canned stuff, it ain’t the same.

So, you got your coconuts. Crack ’em open, get that sweet water out. You can drink that, it’s good for ya. Then you gotta get the white stuff out, the meat. That’s what we want. Now, this here is the tricky part, you gotta grate that coconut. It takes a while, and your arm might get tired, but it’s worth it. Fresh grated coconut in your coconut tart, that’s the secret! My old grandma, she taught me that. And she made it with fruit from her own yard.

  • Get some coconuts
  • Crack ’em open
  • Grate that coconut meat

Now, for the crust. You can buy them ready-made crusts, but where’s the fun in that? Making your own crust, it ain’t that hard. Just some flour, some butter, some sugar, and a little bit of water. Mix it all up, roll it out, and put it in a pan. I use my old metal one. Been using it for years.

You gotta have a good buttery crust. Crust is important. Nobody wants a hard, tasteless crust, right? You put love into the crust, that’s important. My momma always said, “The crust makes the tart.” She was right, you know. She made a mean coconut tart herself, that woman.

Then, you mix that grated coconut with some sugar, some eggs, and some milk. Some folks like to put spices in it, like cinnamon or nutmeg. You do what you like. There ain’t no right or wrong way, ‘cept maybe if you put too much sugar. Then it’s just too sweet.

  • Mix grated coconut with sugar, eggs, and milk
  • Add spices if you want
  • Don’t put too much sugar!

Pour that coconut mix into your crust. Then you gotta bake it. Now, every oven is different. My old oven, it cooks hot. So, I gotta watch it close. You don’t want to burn it. Just bake it till it’s golden brown and the middle ain’t jiggly no more. It is a creamy coconut filling.

When it’s done, you let it cool. Some folks like to put whipped cream on top. Or some fruit. I like it with some mangoes or pineapples. Makes it fancy, you know? This here coconut tart, it’s good for any time. Birthdays, holidays, or just ’cause you want something sweet.

I remember one time, I made a coconut tart for the church social. Everyone loved it. They were all askin’ for the recipe. I just smiled and said, “It’s a family secret.” But it ain’t really a secret. It’s just good old-fashioned cooking. And you know what, it’s a perfect treat for any occasion.

And this other time, my grandson, he brought his girlfriend over. She was a city girl, all fancy and whatnot. I made a coconut tart, and she loved it! Said it was the best thing she ever ate. She ate two pieces! That made me feel good. You know, seeing someone enjoying your food, that’s love.

So, that’s how you make a coconut tart. It ain’t hard, it just takes a little time and a little love. And you don’t need no fancy stuff. Just simple ingredients, that’s all. And you can change it up too, put your own little twist on it. That’s what cooking is all about.

I hope you try making this tart. And I hope you like it. If you do, let me know. I like hearing from folks who try my recipes. It makes me happy to share a little bit of my kitchen with y’all. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll share my other recipes with you. I make a mean apple pie, too. But that’s a story for another day. You make a coconut tart. You will like it. Trust me.
