So, you get some oil, any kind will do, I guess. I usually just use what’s on hand. Heat that up in a big ol’ pot. The kind your mama used to make soup in. You gotta have a lid for this pot too, or else them kernels gonna be jumpin’ out like fleas on a hot griddle.
- Get yourself some popcorn kernels.
- Find them jalapenos.
- Get some oil, whatever’s in the cupboard.
- Big pot with a lid. That’s important!
- Find some butter, cause everyone loves butter.
Toss in a few of them kernels to see if the oil’s hot enough. When they start doin’ their little dance and poppin’, you know you’re ready. Then you pour in the rest of your kernels, enough to cover the bottom of the pot. Not too many, or they won’t all pop right.
Now, for them jalapenos, you gotta chop ’em up. Some folks, they just slice ’em. I like to chop ’em up real fine, so that spicy goodness gets all over them popcorn. If you want less spicy, you can take out the seeds. They are hot, I tell ya. If you prefer a stronger heat, you can leave the seeds. More seeds, more hot.
Once them kernels are in the pot, you sprinkle in your chopped up jalapenos. Put that lid on tight, and give it a good shake. You gotta keep shakin’ that pot, too, while it’s poppin’. Keeps the popcorn from burnin’ on the bottom. That burnt popcorn, ain’t nobody wants that. It’s important to use fresh jalapenos. If you use the old ones, maybe they won’t taste as good.
You listen to that poppin’. It’ll start out fast, like a bunch of firecrackers goin’ off. Then it’ll slow down. When you don’t hear no more poppin’ for a few seconds, that’s when you take it off the heat. Don’t wait too long, or it’ll burn, like I said. The jalapeno popcorn recipe is easy, you will see.
Now, you can just eat it like that, and it’s pretty darn good. But if you wanna make it even better, you melt some butter. Real butter, not that fake stuff. Pour that melted butter all over your jalapeno popcorn. Oh, lordy, that’s good. You gotta adjust how much jalapenos you put in. That way you can make it how you like. More jalapeno, spicier popcorn. Less jalapeno, not so spicy.
Sprinkle a little salt on there, too. Just a pinch, unless you like it salty. Some folks like to put other things on there too. I heard tell of people puttin’ cheese on their popcorn. Sounds a little strange to me, but hey, whatever floats your boat. You can do it however you want.
This here jalapeno popcorn, it’s a real treat. Good for when you’re watchin’ them picture shows, or just sittin’ around with your family. It’s easy to make, too. Even I can do it, and I ain’t no fancy cook. If you are careful, you won’t have any kernels that don’t pop. Just make sure you wait a few seconds after the popping stops, then take it off the heat.
