Alright, let’s talk about them white chocolate pretzels, you know, the sweet and salty things everyone seems to like. I ain’t no fancy chef or nothin’, just an old woman who knows what tastes good, and these things, well, they’re somethin’ else.
First off, I heard tell these things started way back in Germany. Some fella named Franz somethin’-or-other, cooked ’em up way back when. Now, I don’t know if that’s true or just some tall tale, but whoever thought of puttin’ chocolate on pretzels, well, they was a smart one, I tell ya.
Now, makin’ these ain’t rocket science, even I can do it, and that’s sayin’ somethin’. You just need some of that white chocolate stuff, the kind that melts easy. They call it “white almond bark” sometimes, sounds fancy, but it ain’t. And you need pretzels, the little twisty ones, not them big ol’ stick things. And if you’re feelin’ fancy, get some of them sprinkles, the colorful little things kids like. Makes it look all purdy.
- Get your stuff together: White chocolate (about 12 ounces or 6 squares, whatever that means), mini pretzels (about 50 of ’em, give or take), and sprinkles if you want.
- Melt that chocolate: Put that white chocolate in a bowl and melt it. You can do it in the microwave, but keep an eye on it, don’t want it burnin’. Or you can put the bowl over a pot of hot water, just make sure the water don’t touch the bowl.
- Dip them pretzels: Take them pretzels, one by one, and dunk ‘em in the melted chocolate. Make sure they get covered good, but not too thick, you know?
- Sprinkle time: If you’re usin’ sprinkles, shake ‘em on while the chocolate’s still wet. Kids love doin’ this part, makes a mess, but it’s fun.
- Let ‘em cool: Put them dipped pretzels on some wax paper or somethin’ so they don’t stick. Let ‘em sit till the chocolate hardens up. Don’t go pokin’ at ‘em, be patient.
Now, some folks say these things ain’t healthy, too much sugar and all that. Well, I say everything in moderation. You ain’t supposed to eat the whole bag in one sittin’, even though they’re mighty good. A few here and there ain’t gonna hurt ya, unless you got some sugar problem, then you best listen to your doctor.
And speaking of problems, some of them store-bought ones, they got too much sugar, I reckon. And some, they put butter or cinnamon sugar on ‘em, makes ‘em even sweeter. I like to make my own, that way I know what’s in ‘em. Plus, it’s cheaper, and it gives me somethin’ to do on a rainy day.
These white chocolate pretzels, they’re good for anythin’, really. You can put ‘em out at a party, folks will gobble ‘em up. You can give ‘em as gifts, put ‘em in a little baggie, tie a ribbon on it, looks nice. Or you can just eat ‘em yourself, while you’re watchin’ TV or readin’ a book, or just sittin’ on the porch. They’re good any time of day, too. I like ‘em with a cup of coffee in the mornin’, or a glass of milk before bed. Don’t judge me, I like what I like.
The best part about makin’ these? It’s easy. And you can get the grandkids to help. They love dippin’ and sprinklin’. Makes a mess, yeah, but it’s a good mess, a happy mess. And it teaches them somethin’ too, how to make somethin’ good with their own two hands. That’s important, you know, teachin’ the young ‘uns how to do things, how to be self-sufficient. Can’t always rely on store-bought stuff, gotta know how to make things yourself.
So, there you have it, my take on white chocolate pretzels. They’re easy, they’re tasty, and they make people happy. What more could you want? Now go on and make some, you won’t regret it.
